Honda Motor Company was one of the last car manufacturers to start in Japan. Japanese law limits automobile manufacturers to those that had vehicles in production as of 1965. Honda produced motorcycles and released a car in 1965 to make sure they could produce automobiles.
Unlike the other car manufacturers the first Honda was not a car for the masses such as the Subaru 360 or sedan such as the Toyota Publica. Honda released a small 500cc convertible. The 500cc convertible quickly changed into the S600 and S800 coupes and convertibles.
After a couple years Honda released the N360. The N360 was modified with a larger engine to create the N600 for export markets. It is actually very difficult to find a N600 in Japan.
Later Honda released the Z360 and the export version Z600. The N was considered the sedan and the Z was considered to be the coupe.
